Everything about Stensj Banen totally explained
Østensjøbanen is a subway line on the
Oslo T-bane which runs between downtown Oslo and
Mortensrud in the southeast. The line departs from
Furusetbanen at
Hellerud, then travels south through neighborhoods in the boroughs of
Østensjø and
Bøler.
The line was opened as a
tram line to
Oppsal in
1926 and extended to
Bøler in
1958, and converted to subway and extended to
Skullerud in
1967. To serve neighborhoods further south, the line was extended to Mortensrud in
1998.
Østensjøbanen is served by Line 3, which runs through downtown and travels on
Sognsvannsbanen in the west. Like all other subway lines on the east side of Oslo, Østensjøbanen is operated on a
third rail system.
